Rob & Herman Got "Love" in Their Hearts! I work on the 27th floor of the Bank of American Building in Tulsa. The first seven floors are parking. As I was pulling into the parking garage, there were two gentlemen walking on the sidewalk next to the building. Before pulling in, I stopped, grabbed two silver gospel tract coins, lowered my window, and said:
Me: Hey, guys, how's it going? Have you received one of these special coins yet? (Handing each of them a coin).
Them: No, what's this?
Me: They're priceless coins. They're priceless because they can help you determine your eternal destiny. If you were to die today, do you know where you'd spend eternity?
Them: Yes. Heaven.
Me: That's great! Do you mind if I ask how you know for sure? (I always ask this because most people think they're going to heaven but often do not really know how one can actually inherit the Kingdom of God).
Herman: I've got Love in my heart. Jesus is Love.
Rod: (Nodding in agreement).
Me: How did Jesus come into your hearts?
Herman: I asked Him.
Me: Do you know what Bible verse that comes from?
Them: (Shaking their heads "no").
Me: Revelation 3:20. It says "I stand at the door and knock. If anyone will hear my voice and let me in, I will come into him." Did you know that the verse prior to that, verse 19, explains how we open the door to allow Jesus to come into our hearts?
Them: (Shaking their heads "no").
Me: Revelation 3:19 says that we must be zealous to repent. Repent is a biblical word that means not only to ask God to forgive us of our sins - past, present, and future - but also to turn from going our own sinful ways back to the Lord. It means to turn. We turn our hearts back to God in repentance. If we believe that Jesus died on the cross to satisfy God's justice in order that we might lawfully be granted mercy and forgiveness, then we are born again spiritually with new hearts that Jesus can and will enter. Have you repented of your sins and trusted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?
Herman: Yes.
Rob: (Nodding in agreement).
Me: That's awesome! Well, Jesus said "follow me and I will teach you how to fish for men (Matt. 4:19)." I'm just trying to follow Him and do a little fishing today, because you can't take anything with you to heaven except other people!
Them: That's right!
Me: Have y'all been doing much fishing?
Herman: Well, probably not as much as I should. Things get in the way. Frustrations.
Rod: (Nodding in agreement).
Me: Things do often get in the way. Well, you can use those coins to do some fishing today. Just pass them along to someone else who may not know their eternal destiny!
Herman: All right! We'll do that.
Rod: What's your name (shaking my hand)?
Me: Chris, what are your names?
Them: Rod. Herman.
Me: Great to meet y'all! Have a blessed day!
Them: You too!
We parted ways encouraged. I was encouraged. They were clearly encouraged. It's a blessing to co-labor with the Lord in seeking to share the truth with the lost and in encouraging fellow believers in their walk with the Lord, particularly encouraging them to share the Good News with others while they still can!
