I struck up a conversation with our waiter tonight, Greg. Started to get to know him little by little as the evening moved along. He grew up in Owasso. Lives in West Tulsa now. Has worked at the Chalkboard a couple of years. I gave him a gospel tract and asked him if he knew what his eternal destiny would be. To make a long story short, Greg says he's repented of his sins and is trusting Christ for his salvation. I asked him if he's following the Lord today with his life. He said he was. Sometimes I will ask a person how they're following the Lord, just to get an insight into their walk. I didn't ask Greg that question. I did give him an extra tract and encourage him to share his faith with others who may not know where they're going, since he can't take anything else with him. I shared with him Matthew 4:19, where Jesus told Peter and his brother to "follow me and I will make you fishers of men." I exhorted Greg to fish while he can. The writer of Hebrews exhorts us to exhort one another daily while we still can.
In the book that I'm listening to right now, Crazy Love, by Francis Chan, he tells a story of a businessman who attended his church and was asked to speak at a funeral. The businessman shared the gospel with the crowd and urged them to be reconciled to the Lord and to follow Him before it's too late. Immediately after exhorting the crowd, the businessman died on the platform in front of their very eyes, suffering a heart attack. He spent his last moments sharing the gospel and exhorting others to do the same. What a way to go. Sharing the word of life while entering the gates of eternal life!
