We spent the weekend at Big Cedar, near Branson, MO. The kids love the pools and the lazy river there. On the way in to the pools on Saturday morning, there was a young man working at the gate. When my kids tried to walk in through the gate without stopping to get an arm band showing they are approved for entry, the young man said, "hey, you can't get in without an arm band. It's a requirement."
My first thought was immediately onto the spiritual analogy for swinging this conversation to the eternal. I showed the young man my room key, which proved to him that I had permission to be there with my kids. He then put bands on all of us so we could go in and swim for the day. As the kids ran off to swim, I asked him what his name was. William, he said. I asked William if he knew what was required to get into the gates of heaven.
Be good to people, William asked hesitatingly. No, I said. Being good to people is definitely a good thing to do, but that won't get you into heaven. Know why, I asked? Not really. Well, because none of us can be good enough to get into heaven. I shared with William and told him that he needed to repent of his sins and trust Christ alone for his salvation. He appreciated my friendliness and taking time with him. We spoke throughout the weekend.
