I was running a bit late to get to AWANA from work this evening but still needed to stop off at the bank first on my way. Speaking to another teller, the woman next to me said, "I feel like I'm rich, because I have $42,000." Wonder how she'd feel if she had a million, I thought to myself. But she finished before I did and left before I could whip out a million dollar bill gospel tract.
On the way out, I saw her around the corner in the lobby. I walked up to her, pulled out a million dollar bill, and said, "this will really make you feel rich!" She took it and laughed. Is this real, she asked? No, I said, there's no such thing as a million dollar bill. It's a gospel tract, I added. It has the million dollar question on the back. What's the million dollar question, she inquired. Will you go to heaven, I answered.
Oh, I'm not sure about that, she replied. I hope I will. I go to the Methodist church over hear, but I'm not sure where I would go. Would you like to know, I asked. Yes, she said. I told her that the good news is that the bible says she can know for sure what her eternal destiny will be. I encouraged her to read the back of the tract (I was pressed for time), and do what it says to do (repent, trust Christ alone for salvation, and read her bible daily and seek to obey what it says). I told her I would write down my favorite verse on the tract that says you can know for sure what your destiny will be but I didn't have a pen on me. She quickly reached into her purse and pulled out a pin. Here, use this, she urged. So, I wrote 1 John 5:11-13 on her tract and put "know" in quotes, telling her that these verses make clear she can know what her destiny will be if she obeys what she reads on the back of the tract.
She asked me what church I go to, and I told her. She thanked me for the tract, and I told her to have a blessed day.
