David Lee Roth Is Heaven Bound! Had to head out of town to speak at an Employment Law Seminar today but first had to stop and get gas. Intentionally pulled up to a pump with a guy standing on the other side filling up his truck. I grabbed a million dollar bill gospel tract, got out of the car, and approached the man who had his back to me.
Me: Gas prices are getting so high again you'll need a million dollars just to fill up your tank!
DLR: He turns around, looks at me, sees the bill, laughs, takes it, and starts looking at it with a big smile. He looked just like David Lee Roth from Van Halen!
Me: It's actually a gospel tract. It has the million dollar question on the back, "Will you go to heaven when you die?"
DLR: Oh yeah, I'm going to heaven! (as he put the pump away and started to get back into his truck)
Me: That's awesome! After you read it to confirm that you're eternal destiny is secure, pass it on to someone who may not know! You can't take a million dollars with you. All you can take is yourself and others!
DLR: You bet! Thanks!
Dan and Nikki. Opportunities to sow seeds of the gospel abound if we'll just be alert to them and capitalize on them. On my way out of the parking garage today at my office, there were two parking garage attendants at the exit talking. I stopped on my way out and struck up a conversation with them (Step 1: Relate). As we talked, an opportunity arose for me to shift the conversation to spiritual things (Step 2: Create). I asked them if they knew what their eternal destiny would be if they were to die today. Dan said he hoped things would work out. Nikki wasn't sure. I told them that the good news is that the bible says they can know for sure what their eternal destiny will be, not based on what they've done, whether good or bad, but based on what the Lord has done for them. I handed them some gospel tracts and pointed out that they both begin with a discussion of God's law, the 10 Commandments, to show us how desperately we need a Savior, because we've broken all of the commands countless times and can't be good enough to attain to God's standard of perfection that's necessary to spend eternity with Him (Step 3: Convict). We went through some of the laws. They recognized they'd be in danger of hell if they died today. I then explained how Jesus paid the penalty for their sins so they don't have to (Step 4: Reveal). I concluded by asking them if they knew the two things Jesus said to do in order to be born again and secure your eternal destiny. They didn't know, so I told them: Repent and believe (Mk. 1:15; Jn. 3:3-16; Luke 13). I asked them when they were going to take those critical steps. They weren't sure when they were going to take those steps. I urged them to do so before it's too late, because they never know when their last day will be. We ended by exchanging pleasantries. Next time I see them, Lord willing, I'll ask if they've repented and trusted in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and see if they're following Him daily. Pray for them.
Golfin Buddies. Later this evening, I took my oldest son, Christopher, to the mall to shop for an iPhone! His birthday was this week. They were out. Bummer. Went to the food court to grab a bite for a late dinner. As we were eating, it two golfing buddies sat a table near us. We struck up a conversation and began work with the Lord as He opened up opportunities for us to Relate, Create, Convict, and Reveal the truth. It went well. One was a believer who periodically shares his faith on mission trips. The other was considering the message we shared. We encouraged his believing friend to work with his buddy to act before it's too late.
Andre. On the way out of the mall, we passed by a young man just hanging out, Andre. Andre didn't know where he would go if he died today but he wanted to know how he could know for sure that he would go to heaven. We walked through the typical Way of the Master approach. See the clips at the bottom of the blog site. He was so honest in his answers. At the end, I asked when he was going to repent and trust in Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He said he wasn't sure. I urged him to act before it's too late, too.
Opportunities abound. The harvest is plentiful!
