Day 18 - Witnessing Daily - "Going up?"

When I got on the elevator to go up to my office this morning, there were two people there. One was a waitress who works in the dining club at the penthouse restaurant. I've shared with her in the past. Given her different types of tracts. She enjoys getting them and then passing them along to her wait staff and kitchen friends. I guess you could say we tag team a bit. I greeted her with a warm, friendly hello and we started some "small" talk. I remembered that I stuffed my wallet this morning with some of the new celebrity million dollar bills that you can order at http://www.livingwaters.com/, so I pulled one out and showed it to her. She loved it. This one had Bruce Willis's caricature on it.

The businessman standing next to her was watching and listening. I love captive audiences. I pulled out another one and handed it to him. He smiled and took it. It's amazing how much people get a kick out of these. Great icebreaker for a discussion that can lead into things eternal. His had Brad Pitt's mug on it. He chuckled at it. I told him it was a gospel tract. At that time, the door opened and he started to walk off, looking at the tract. I told him to "be sure to read the million dollar question on the back" as the doors closed. Seed sown. The rest is up to the Lord. Maybe I'll see him around again some time.

On the way out of the parking garage that evening to head home, I saw Nikki again. I shared with Nikki the evening before (see yesterday's post). I greeted her with an enthusiastic, "Hey, Nikki, how ya doin!?"

Nikki: Working.

Me: What's Dean up to? (He was the guy with her the evening before that I also shared with).

Nikki: I'm not sure what he's doing tonight?

Me: Did you decide to repent and trust Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?

Nikki: Not yet.

Me: What's holding you back, Nikki? Nothing's more important than your eternal destiny! You never know when your last day will be (thinking of Michael Jackson, Farrah, Ed McMahon).

Nikki: Oh, nothing really.

Me: Nothing's holding you back? Then why are you waiting? Jesus said there are only two roads in life, a broad road that leads to destruction and a narrow road that leads to life. Repent, Nikki, and turn and follow the Lord on the narrow road while you still can! God loves you very much and paid a high price to save you from suffering for your own sins. Don't delay!

Nikki: (Silence)

Me: Well, God bless you, Nikki! Have a great night, and take those critical steps before it's too late!

Sometimes when people seem to show a lack of concern about the eternal destiny, I will do what Jesus did--describe what hell is like. Jesus was very explicit about what hell is like--a place where the fire is never quenched and the flesh never dies. There will be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth for eternity. Why would He be so graphic about it? Because He loves us and doesn't want us to spend eternity there. I didn't do that with Nikki. Maybe next time.

God simply asks us to "Go." He asks us to be faithful witnesses who share the good news with everyone. It's our responsibility to sow the seeds. It's God's responsibility for what happens with those seeds. Maybe another will come along and water it, too, and it will spring up into a great harvest!
