Celebrities Attract Party Girls. Luke records that the day the religious leaders killed Stephen for sharing the gospel, "a great persecution broke out against the church at Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. . . . Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went (Acts 8:1-4)." That's the example we should be following. Sharing the life-saving truth of the word wherever we go.
When I pulled up to get gas this evening, there was a crowd of ladies gathered around two cars on the other side of the pump standing around talking. I handed one to the lady next to me who was filling up one of the cars. She took and asked who's caricature was on it. I told her and explained that it was a gospel tract and had the million dollar question on the back. She turned it over and started reading it as her car was filling up. I gave her some more to give to her friends. I then went inside to buy a drink and had a chance to pass some out inside, too. On the way out, the group of ladies were still standing around their cars. I went over to them and asked if their friend had shared the million dollar bills with them. She hadn't. "What? Is she holdin out on ya?!" So I pulled out some more and started handing them out. They crowded around to figure out who was on them. I encouraged them to read the million dollar question on the back and said "good night" as a I got back into the car to leave.
This was another one of those "drive-by" seed-sowing encounters. Not the kind of depth that I prefer, but a lot like the sower in Jesus' parable who cast the seed out as he walked along. You never know what the Lord will do with those seeds. I pray they fell on some good soil!
At the pool today with the kids, I had an opportunity to continue to build a relationship with a young lifeguard who works there and with whom I had a chance to share the gospel a few days ago. I know I will see him around quite a bit this summer, so I will keep an eye out for him and work on developing the relationship in order to encourage him in his walk and see how he's doing. Make sure he's spending time in the word and genuinely striving to follow the Lord. As it has been said, "sin will keep you from the bible, but the bible will help keep you from sin."
