Day 27 - Witnessing Daily - Independence Day - True Independence

After a fun-filled day at the pool with the family, I went to pick up some racks of ribs from Billy Sims. Got in line. Placed my order. Then realized I didn't have any gospel tracts. I decided I would use a technique my 16 year old son taught me. When checking out, I told the 20 something young man, "I'm all out of million dollar bills!" Laughing, he replied, "yeah, me too. Spent my last one today." "Mine are special, though," I added. "Oh yeah, what's special about yours," he inquired. "Well, mine have the million dollar question on the back," waiting for him to wonder what the question was and ask. He didn't ask, but he looked at me as if to ask, so I told him: "Will you go to heaven when you die." I gave him some time to think about it. He didn't respond. "Will you go to heaven when you die," I asked. "There's nothing more important than your eternal destiny." "I'm not sure if I will or not," he admitted candidly. "Would you like to know," I followed up, adding "that the good news is that the bible says you can know for sure what your eternal destiny will be." "Sure," he said. Since there was a line behind me at this point, I signed my receipt to pay for the meat and wrote down John 3, Mark 1:15, and 1 John 5:11-13 and instructed him to read those chapters and verses to find out what Jesus said about how to secure your eternal destiny. I emphasized that he should read them soon, since he doesn't know when his last day will be. He thanked me and I wished him an awesome Independence day. There is no true independence for those who don't know their eternal destiny and haven't experienced the liberating power of the gospel to break the chains of sin and self and set the captive eternally free. For whom the son sets free is free indeed. (John 8:31-32). I pray the Lord will move on his heart to read those verses at his first opportunity, repent of his sins, trust Christ for salvation, and choose to follow Him daily.
