The harvest is plentiful outside the Tulsa County Courthouse. The Lord provided some great witnessing encounters today. Richard didn't know what his eternal destiny would be if he were to die today. I asked him if he wanted to know. He said yes. I love that answer. I shared the gospel with him, the full gospel. Beginning with the law, which is designed to show us our great need for a Savior, I explained how we all fall impossibly short of God's perfect moral standard. He acknowledged the truth of that fact. I then shared the good news of Jesus' substitutionary atonement for our sins, giving us His perfect righteousness and taking the punishment for our sinfulness on the cross so we don't have to. I explained to him what Jesus said about how to get the benefit of what He has done for us--repent and trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation (Mk. 1:15; John 3; Luke 13). I asked him when he was going to take those two critical steps. He said that he believed that he had repented of his sins and was trusting in Christ alone for salvation. I praised the Lord for that and encouraged him to take some extra tracts with him into the courthouse and spread the good news that he had just learned, which confirmed his standing with the Lord. He thanked me and said he would.
Then there was Sandy. What a story. I sat on the bench next to her and listened to her share her heart. I can't imagine some of the things that people have lived through. She said she had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ but admitted that she didn't read her bible or go to church or really know how to know for sure what her eternal destiny would be. She was interested to know, so I explained the gospel to her. I explained to her how to follow the Lord, how Jesus said His true disciples continue in His word each day and seek to obey what they read (John 8:31-32). She didn't have a bible, so I gave her a copy of the Gospel of John and a New Testament. She asked which one was easier to read. I encouraged her to start with the Gospel of John, because it explains who Jesus is, what He came to do, and how to follow Him, since John says that Jesus is They Way, The Truth, and The Life, and no one comes to the father except through Him (John 14:1-6).
Pray for Richard. Pray for Sandy. The harvest is so plentiful. While there are many who could care less about eternity, there are many around us who really want to know. Will you seek them out, as Jesus sought you out, and share the truth with them? Love is brave. Love is bold. Love is willing to take risks. Love cares enough to share the truth and trusts the results to God! You can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens you, even sharing the Gospel with strangers! Now GO!
