Sam was waiting outside the courthouse this morning. Not sure why. I introduced myself and struck up a conversation with him. We had a good talk about his spiritual condition and whether he had repented and was trusting Christ alone for salvation. I encouraged him to share the gospel with those he knew who may not know the truth.
Jimmy was a different story. He had been busted and was waiting outside the courthouse to meet with others who had been sentenced to community service. Unlike Sam, he didn't know what his eternal destiny would be if he died today. I had a chance to explain the gospel to him. The law was certainly doing its work on his conscience. He became noticeable uneasy as he admitted that he was a lying, thieving, blasphemous adulterer at heart when examined in the light of God's perfect moral law. He was ready to hear the gospel. I urged him to seriously consider the message and act upon it before it's too late.
And then there was the joy of my tag team partner. A lady that I had shared the gospel with last year was at the courthouse again today. When I first met her, she was going to drug court. She had been released from prison and was in line to go into the courthouse. An older lady was with her who was from a local church that had been reaching out to her. She had recently trusted Christ for salvation and was leaning heavily on him and her new found church to help her make it through the post-prison, drug court and rehab process. Over the months, I would frequently see her in line going to court for her regular hearings where she'd check in with the court and show that she's in compliance with her program. We began to develop a friendship as we would see each other and encourage other in our walk with the Lord. Today, we caught up on each other again. She's really growing in her walk with the Lord. It's exciting to see. As I began to share with a large crowd that had gathered, she began to join me in sharing Jesus with the crowd. She began to boom out her testimony to the crowd, declaring how Jesus had set her free from prison and from her addiction. It was awesome. What a testimony of God's grace in her life. To go from a newly saved addict and former prisoner to a growing believer, excited about the Lord, and willing to step out courageously and witness to crowds!
