Do you ever think of yourself as a farmer whose job is to go out and sow seeds everyday? Me either. But, in Mark 4, Jesus told a parable about a farmer who went out to sow seeds. The farmer scattered the seeds over all kinds of ground, hard path, stony ground, thorn-invested ground, and good ground. Jesus explained that the seed is the word of God. When the word of God fell on good ground, it sprang to life and bore fruit.
Peter said in 1 Peter 1:23 that true Christians are born again by the word of God. Jesus told his disciples to go into all the word and scatter the life-saving seed of the word of God everywhere they went by sharing the gospel with every creature. That's what Jesus did as an example for them for three years. When he came down from the wilderness temptations before he started his ministry, Matthew records that "from that time on Jesus began to preach and to say, repent for the kingdom of heaven is near (Matt. 4:19).
When you go about your day, remember that you've been called to be a farmer who scatters the seed of the word, the gospel, everywhere you go. Today, I shared some tracts with some people at Braums as I got some milk to bring home. Arm yourself with tracts. Give them out every chance you get. Literally tens of millions of Chinese believers owe their eternal salvation to a gospel tract that some unknown believer left laying in the home of young Hudson Taylor, one of great fathers of modern missions.
