There are times when I feel that I didn't take full advantage of an opportunity, when "all" I did was pass out some tracts and encourage people to read them and consider their eternal destiny. I much prefer to have encounters when the conversation gets deep into the meat of the gospel.
When things don't seem to go that way (either because of my timidity or because of other circumstances), I get tempted to feel as though just giving out a tract is like a "dry bone." Not meaty enough. Not meaningful. But, Ezekiel 37 reminds me that it's God's work and God is in full control. He can take "dry bones" and turn them into a "vast army" for His Glory, an army that's literally alive from the dead, vibrant and passionate about living for Him.
I gave out some tracts at the bank today, two employees who were working the counter as I came through. I tried to get into the meat, but one of the employee's wouldn't engage and then another customer walked up.
I gave out a tract at a drive-thru-window but another customer pulled up and it cut the opportunity short. Both encounters seemed dry. Dry bones. But, the Lord can take those "dry" encounters and breath His life into them through the power of the gospel message contained in those tracts. As Peter says, we're born again by the Word of God, which lives and abides forever.
It's all about him. It's not about me. Lord, please put meat on the bones of those tracts today!
