On my way into Walmart to pick up some rib eye steaks to grill for our family labor day feast, I passed by a young man gather shopping carts from the parking lot. I handed him a million dollar bill gospel tract and asked him if he'd earned his first million yet. Not yet, he said.
It's actually a gospel tract, I answered. It's got the million dollar question on the back. "What's the million dollar question," he asked, as he pulled the carts toward the store. "Will you go to heaven when you die," I said. Do you know the answer to that question, I asked. Yes, heaven, he said. That's great I replied. Do you mind if I ask how you know for sure, I inquired. I've accepted Jesus Christ as my savior, he said, adding that he tries to follow Him by being baptized, going to church, and living a good life. That's great, I replied.
As we walked toward the store together, I explained to him what I was doing. I shared with him what Jesus said and did in Matthew 4, how he urged Peter and Andrew to repent because the kingdom of heaven is at hand and how he then exhorted them to drop their fishing nets, get out of their boat, and follow him and learn to fish for men. Jesus said that his followers "fish" for men. I explained to him that meant sharing the gospel with people, "because you can't take a million dollars with you. You can only take yourself and other people." I encouraged him to share the tract with someone who may not know their eternal destiny.
