Day 151 - Father & Son Admit Need to Repent and Believe

A father and son were outside the Courthouse.  I asked them if they had received one of our Courthouse Tips gospel tracts.  They hadn't, so I gave them each one and asked them if they had a church background.  They didn't, so I asked them if they knew what their eternal destiny would be if they were to die today.  They didn't, so I asked them if they wanted to know what the Bible said about how they can know what their eternal destiny will be.

They did, so I explained to them how their sin had separated them from God and how they deserved divine justice for their sins.  They acknowledged that they were guilty before God.  I explained that the bible says it's appointed for man to die once and after that to appear before God in judgment (Heb. 9:27), and they admitted that if they died today and God judges them by his law they would be found guilty and their destiny would not be heaven, but hell.

I asked them if it concerned them that if they were to die today they would end up in hell.  The son said no.  So, I explained to him how Jesus graphically described what hell is like.  Jesus didn't sugar coat it, so I don't either.  I told him that it's a place where the fire is never quenched and the flesh never dies and it is so bad there will be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth for eternity.  I asked him if that sounded like a place where he wanted to spend eternity.  His answer changed.  He didn't want to be there.

I assured him that God didn't want him to be there either and preferred to grant them mercy if they would believe that Jesus died in their place so they don't have to and repented.  They didn't know what it meant to repent, so I explained it to them.  I asked them if they had ever repented and trusted in Christ alone for salvation.  They hadn't.  I asked them when they were going to do that.  They didn't know.  I urged them to do it soon before it's too late.  I asked them if they knew when the bible said we should repent and trust Christ.  They didn't, so I explained that the bible says "today is the day of salvation" and that they should choose today whom they will serve.  I gave them a bible, urged them start by reading the gospel of John, and encouraged them to repent and turn to Christ before it's too late and begin to follow him.  I hope they repented today and turned to follow Jesus.
