Time flies. I can't believe it's been 99 days since I joined a brother in a commitment to follow the Lord more closely by sharing the gospel daily with at least one person (Matt. 4:19). In Matthew 4:19, Jesus said to Peter and Andrew, "follow me and I will teach you how to fish for men." I want to follow. I want to fish, fish for what matters most to God--the priceless souls of men, souls that He came for, that He died for, that He rose for.
I'm learning a lot. Learning obedience. Learning to overcome fear. Learning to overcome pride. Learning to overcome self-centeredness. Learning to overcome a lack of love for people. Learning to overcome vain concerns about my own reputation. Learning to listen, listen for that which may be the key to unlocking and disarming the objections to life-saving faith. Learning to be prepared to give a defense for the hope that lies within me and that compels me to share it freely with those around me. Learning to trust the Lord for the fruit. Learning that it's all about Him and all about glorifying Him by making much of Him in my witness. I have a lot to learn.
Today, I had a chance to share the gospel at a Taco Bueno drive thru on my way to AWANA. I offered the employee a free gift. She gladly accepted the gospel tract. I offered him some more for her co-workers who were watching. I told her that it had a gospel message and asked her if she knew where she would go if she were to die today. She said, no, she didn't know where she would go. I asked her if she wanted to know. Yes, she said. She did want to know. That was the open door, a door the Lord provided. I shared with her in 30 seconds a condensed version of the gospel, keeping an eye out to see if anyone else was pulling up behind me. In the end, she learned that she needed to repent, what repentance actually means and requires, and that she needed to trust in Jesus Christ alone for her salvation. She learned that there are two roads in life, one that is broad and leads to destruction and one that is narrow that leads to life, following Jesus. I encouraged her to turn and follow Jesus. I encouraged her to take the satellite dish of her heart and turn it from the world's signal to the Lord's. I pray she did that or will do it soon.
