I'm continually amazed. I'm amazed at what the Lord has been teaching me as I seek to follow Him daily in fishing for men, men for whom He died. One lesson I've learned is that there are many who will readily talk about things eternal if you simply ask in sincerity. Just ask. Ask sincerely. Care.
In John 1:43, it says "Jesus found Philip." That means Jesus was looking. He was on a mission. Philip's eternal welfare was at stake. Jesus cared, so he went after Philip. The result--Philip followed Jesus. What did Philip do? He did what he saw Jesus doing. The first thing Philip did was find Nathanael. Like his Lord, Philip looked for Nathanael. Philip went on a mission. He went looking for someone who needed to know Jesus, who needed the Savior. He opened his mouth, too. He told Nathanael about Jesus, encouraging Nathanael to check Jesus out for himself.
Who are you looking for who needs to know the Savior? How often do you look for opportunities to share Jesus? They abound daily.
I came upon a group of young adults today and overheard a couple of young ladies joking around with a young man, Bobby Jack. I was looking for an opportunity to swing things from the natural to the eternal, like Jesus did with the woman at the well. Like Jesus obviously did with Philip when He found him. I jumped in. Bobby Jack, I said, have these young ladies made restitution for harassing you by offering you any money? I handed him and a million dollar bill gospel tract and started passing more to those around him who were quickly intrigued by the bills. What's this, they asked almost collectively. As we joked around some more, I explained that they were gospel tracts. I asked them if they knew where they would go when they died. They weren't sure. I explained how they could know for sure. But notice something. All I did was look for an opportunity. When the Lord presented one, I jumped on it. All I did was ask them if they knew where they would go when the die, and I asked in sincerity. All I did was ask. They answered without any offense.
I then asked them another very simple, non-threatening follow up question. Do you want to know how you can know for sure that your eternal destiny will be heaven? Yes, they said! They wanted to know! That's how easy it is. Just ask. Just ask. As Jesus looked for Philip, and as Philip looked for Nathanael, look for an opportunity to ask. Someone's eternal fate could be on the line.
