While getting cash at an ATM, a guy walked up to wait for his turn. As I finished, I handed him a million dollar bill gospel tract and said, "hey, did you see what that machine gave me?" He laughed, took the bill, and began to read it intently.
It's a gospel tract, I said, as he continued to read. I let him read on, because the first half of the tract asks questions of the reader about compliance with God's moral law, just like those that Jesus asked the rich young ruler. The purpose of the law is to show us how far we've fallen from God's perfect moral standard and how desperately we need a savior. As he read, I asked him how he was doing (in regard to his answers to the questions). From his reaction, I could tell that he wasn't doing so well and that the law of God was doing its work on his heart.
He stopped reading further and started to put the bill away. Don't stop know, I urged, the other side has the good news. I encouraged him to read on and learn about the good news of how he can know his destiny will be heaven. "My wife and kids are waiting the car," he said. Well, be sure and finish reading it when you get a chance, I replied. Nothing's more important than your eternal destiny!
That may have been just the warning he needed to turn from death to life. I pray he did or he will.
