That's what I told him. I told him his house is on fire and I'm trying to wake up him so he can run to the door and get out before it's too late. He thanked me. He wasn't angry. He thanked me. What would you do if your neighbor's house was on fire and your neighbor was inside sleeping, oblivious to impending death?
As our paths crossed, I offered him a million dollar bill gospel tract. He took it, as most do. He looked at it, as most do. He broke a grin, as most do. It's a gospel tract, I said. Will you go to heaven when you die? No, he said without hesitation. Not right now.
You need to do something about it before it's too late, I said with genuine concern. I know, he said. I asked him if he would try to rescue a neighbor who was asleep in his house while it was on fire. Yes, he said. That's what I'm trying to do, I replied. Your house is on fire, I told him in sincerity. Jesus said that hell is a place where the fire is never quenced and the flesh never dies, I explained. You don't want to wait until it's too late to repent and trust in Christ as your savior and follow him. Do it now before it's too late. [Jesus is the door to salvation to whom we must urge people to run in order to flee the wrath to come.] Thanks, he said. God bless you, I replied.
Notice that he thanked me. Would you thank someone who went out of their way to warn you about a very real danger to come? Not everyone thanks me. But he did. That meant a lot.
I hope that warning made a difference in his life. At least I tried. He needed a warning. He needed a wake up call. He needs to get right before it's too late. Jesus came and died on the cross for him.
