Day 132 - Friends Don't Let Friends Go to Hell

He said he knew his destiny was heaven and that he was saved.  That's great, I replied.  Since most people I talk to think they're going to heave, I asked him if he minded if I asked him how he knew for sure.  He said that he confessed his faith in Jesus Christ.  That's great, too, I said.  How does that save you, I asked.  He died for our sins, he answered.  So far, so good.

I asked him if he understood that Jesus' death on the cross was a legal transaction (as this young man that I was witnessing to stood in line waiting to go into the Tulsa County Courthouse).  No, he said.  I explained that we broke God's law and deserve to pay the penalty for our sins, which is death (Rom. 3:23), but Jesus took our punishment for us so that God's justice would be fulfilled and so that God could show us His great mercy and let us go free.  That made sense to him.

I asked him if he had any friends who may not know if they're going to heaven.  Yes, he said.  I asked him if he had ever shared the the gospel with them.  No, he admitted.  I asked him how he would feel if they died and went to hell.  Bad, he said.  That's right, I answered, you would feel horrible.  I encouraged him to study the gospel message that was in the gospel tract I had given him and encouraged him to share the gospel with his friends before it's too late.  I hope he will.
